Does the Morning and Evening Oscillator Model Fit Better for Flies or Mice?Institute of Zoology, University of Regensburg, Regensburg, Germany, charlotte.foerster{at}biologie.uni-regensburg.de The morning and evening dual oscillator model can explain the adaptation of animals to different photoperiods and other phenomena as bimodal activity patterns, aftereffects, and internal desynchronization of the activity rhythm into 2 free-running components. This review summarizes evidence for and against the existence of morning and evening oscillator cells in the core circadian pacemaker centers of mice and fruit flies.
